Rand Paul response to HEMP

February 2, 2012

Dear Ms. Krider,

Thank you for contacting me regarding industrial hemp farming. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this issue.

In May 2011, Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas) introduced the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2011 (H.R. 1831). This legislation would exclude industrial hemp from the definition of marijuana. Industrial hemp would be considered any cannabis plant with a concentration of less than .3 percent tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – the active ingredient in marijuana that causes its affects.

H.R. 1831 has been referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the House Judiciary Committee, where it awaits further consideration. Rest assured should this legislation come before the Senate for debate, I will keep your thoughts in mind.

Sincerely,

Signature

Rand Paul, MD
United States Senator
